Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect after Fractional 1540?
You may experience lingering redness, warmth, swelling, or tightness in the treated area, which generally fades within a few hours of treatment. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or to other activities without any recovery time.

Because the pulses are confined to narrow columns in the skin, much of the skin is left unaffected and there is a quick healing process; most people notice positive changes in skin tone and texture within a few days.

How many treatments of Fractional 1540 may be needed?
A series of treatments at 4-6 week intervals may be required to achieve the desired results. Your treatment provider will be able to give you more information about StarLux® Fractional nonablative skin resurfacing treatment and expected outcomes.

How does the StarLux® Fractional nonablative skin resutiacing System work?
The Palomar StarLux®lS40 Fractional™ Laser System delivers laser energy in an array of narrow, focused microbeams, to create columns of coagulation (heat) within the skin. The heated tissue within the columns initiates a natural healing process that forms new, healthy tissue. This results in . a fresher, more youthful skin tone and texture.

Which areas can Fractional 1540 be used on?
StarLux® Fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing can be applied to any area of the body, including the face, chest, arms, and hands.

What makes StarLux® treatments different from other methods?
Some skin treatment devices, such as CO2 lasers, use the ablative method: removing the epidermis and some of the dermis. While a good result is eventually seen, the drawbacks include red and raw skin, and a risk of infection for several weeks after treatment.

Is Fractional 1540 safe?
By delivering laser energy as individual pulses of microbeams, the Lux1540 protects the skin from the overheating that can result from many other systems. In addition, th,e Lux1540 features built-in cooling of the .skin, so you may feel only minor discomfort during treatment.

How does Palomar laser leg vein treatment work?
Lasers deliver concentrated light in a specific wavelength of the spectrum. Each wavelength is absorbed by a different target, such as pigment, blood, or water. The Palomar Lux1064 handpiece delivers light pulses in the 1064 nm wavelength, which is ideal for targeting leg veins.

The light pulses heat the blood within the leg vein. The heat of the blood affects the vessel lining, which causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view. The Lux1064 can also be used on facial veins.

What are Palomar laser leg vein treatments like?
Your treatment provider will move the Lux1064 handpiece over your skin, following the length of the vein, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

How does Palomar pulsed light work?
Palomar Systems use specialized handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as hair reduction, sunspot removal, and acne treatment.

The Palomar hair removal handpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

How is Palomar pulsed light different from a laser?
Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.

What is Restylane?
Restylane enhances your looks naturally by simple injections restoring your skin's youthful volume, creating a softness and revitalising your appearance. Restylane offers the complete solution and treatment choice for men and women seeking to hold back the years and refresh their looks subtly and naturally.

How does Restylane work?
Restylane is a crystal-clear gel made from non-animal hyaluronic acid and water. The gel is a biotechnologically produced version of hyaluronic acid, a tissue friendly substance that occurs naturally in the body. By replenishing nature's supply of hyaluronic acid Restylane revitalises and plumps up the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and giving a softer look. The gel is injected into the skin to create a natural beauty lift. Restylane instantly enhances lips and diminishes the effects of wrinkles and lines. It is not collagen and it is not Botox. Restylane does not affect facial expression.

What are the advantages of Restylane over the many other injectable non surgical cosmetic treatments?
• Natural and safe - FDA approved in December 2003
• No animal ingredients
• No skin test needed
• Instant and long lasting results
• Biodegradable, non permanent
• Quick treatment, takes around 30 minutes
• Extensive clinical data supporting efficacy and safety

Why is Restylane described as a natural beauty treatment?
Restylane contains Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA) which is the basis of all Q-Med products. The patented and unique stabilisation process employed by QMed in the manufacture of Restylane results in a minimally modified hyaluronic acid (HA) molecule. Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in our bodies. Its most important function is to carry and bind water. The Restylane HA molecule is virtually identical to that of our natural HA in our skin. This reduces the risk for inflammatory reaction and ensures long lasting treatment results.

Nutrients, oxygen and hormones are able to pass freely between the crystal clear gel particles, leaving the skin natural and healthy looking. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place and when totally absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body.

The crystal-clear gel is injected into the skin restoring youthful volume to smooth facial lines, enhance lips and facial contours creating a natural beauty lift.

Will it hurt?
Some people may experience the treatment as uncomfortable. A local anaesthetic cream is often used when treating facial lines. Another form of anaesthesia, a dental bloc, is often used when enhancing lips to numb the area being treated.

What areas can be treated?
Restylane treatments can be used for smoothing out facial lines, creating more sensuous looking lips and shaping facial contours, such as cheeks and chins. It is a subtle approach to enhancing looks naturally.
